Below
are helpful Post-Op Instructions for care for the following
procedures:
1.
When you arrive home you may resume your regular diet.
2.
Pain medication may be prescribed for you.
Take it as needed. You may resume driving when you are no
longer taking the prescription pain medication
3.
You may shower the day after surgery.
4.
You may have small pieces of tape over your incision.
These may be removed after 5 days.
5.
Check your incision daily.
If you should note a change such as increasing tenderness
or redness after several days, this should be reported to the
nurse at our office.
6.
You will be given an appointment to see your surgeon
usually 7-10 days after the surgery.
If you do not receive an appointment time from the
facility, please call the office soon after you return home.
7.
If you have any problems and/or questions, please call
the office nurse. If you have a problem and need to contact our
office after hours, dial our office number and the physician on
call will help you.
8.
If you have an
emergency and cannot reach your surgeon, call 911
or go to the nearest emergency room.
1.
You may experience significant pain following your
surgery. You will
be given a prescription for a strong pain medication.
2.
Swelling and
bruising may develop in the area of your incision and, in a
male; this may extend down into the scrotum.
Ice may be applied to the area if necessary.
3.
You may go up
and down stairs if necessary and walk as desired.
4.
Showering is
permitted the day after surgery.
Do not soak
the incision in a bath until five (5) days after surgery.
5.
If you have tape
on your incision, it may be removed after five (5) days or it
can be left on until your office visit.
6.
You will be
given an appointment to see your surgeon within seven (7) to
fourteen (14) days. If
you do not receive an appointment time from the facility, please
call the office soon after you return home.
7.
You may use an
athletic supporter if you feel that will help your discomfort.
8.
You may drive
when you are able to handle emergencies and are not taking a
prescription pain medication.
9.
If you have any
problems or questions, please call the office nurse. We want to
make your recovery as comfortable as possible.
10.
If you have
serious problems and are unable to reach your surgeon, call 911
or go to the nearest emergency room.

maintenance of your line.

Notify Home HealthCare Nurse if dressing becomes wet and
/or loose.

If you note a change such as increasing tenderness or
redness after several days, this should be reported to the nurse
at our office.
8.
If at any time you have any problems or questions, please
feel free to call our office nurse.
9.
If you cannot
reach your doctor, call
911, or go to the nearest Emergency Room.

hours except to go to the bathroom. The ace bandages may be
loosened if they seem too tight.

Pain medication will be prescribed for you.
Take it as needed. You may resume driving when you are
no longer taking the prescription pain medication and can respond
to emergencies.
3.
Continue to elevate your feet while sitting and try to
rest often.
4.
On the 3rd day after surgery, you may remove
ace wrap and dressings and then re -apply the
ace wrap for comfort. You
may be up as desired and may shower
after all dressings have been removed.
5.
You may have small pieces of tape over your incision. These may be removed after (5) days.
6.
Although few people have a problem with their incisions,
you should look at yours every day after the
dressings have been removed.
If you should note a change such as
increasing tenderness or redness after several days, this should
be reported to the nurse at our office.
7.
You will be given an appointment to see your surgeon
usually within fourteen (14) days.
If you do not receive an appointment time from the facility, please call the
office soon after you return home.
8.
If you have any problems or questions, please call our
office nurse. If you have a problem and need to
contact our office after office hours, dial our office number and the
physician on call will help you.
9.
If you cannot reach you doctor, call 911,
or go to the nearest Emergency Room.
LAPAROSCOPIC
HERNIA REPAIR
1.
You will be given a prescription for pain medication. Take it as needed.
2.
You may resume driving when you are not taking a
prescription pain medication.
3.
Stay on liquids until any nausea is gone.
Then eat light, easily digestible food for the first few
days after surgery. If
the nausea becomes severe, or continues for > 24 hrs. call
the office nurse for instructions.
4.
Your activity is not restricted, however, you may want to
avoid lifting heavy objects (> 20 lbs.) for several days
after surgery. Increase
your activity as your comfort allows.
5.
Remove any gauze dressing the day after surgery.
You may then shower or bathe and reapply a dressing if
needed for drainage.
6.
The small pieces of tape on your incisions may be removed
after seven (7) days or left on until your office visit.
7.
You may experience shoulder pain after surgery for a few
days. This will
improve with time.
8.
Constipation can be a problem.
Dulcolax Suppositories or Fleet enemas can be used as
needed. These are available at pharmacies without a prescription.
9.
You will be given an office appointment to see your
surgeon in five (5) to
fifteen (15) days. If
you do not receive an appointment time from the facility, please
call the office soon after you return home.
10.
Many patients return to work within two (2) weeks after
having laparoscopic surgery.
If you or your employer have any questions, please call

NISSEN FUNDOPLICATION
1.
You may be staying over night in the facility after your
surgery.
2.
You will be given a prescription for pain medication. Take it as needed.
3.
You may resume driving when you are not taking a
prescription pain medication.
4.
Stay on full liquids for the first two (2) weeks after
surgery. Advancement
of diet will be discussed at your post-op appointment.
5.
Your activity should be limited until your surgeon sees
you back in the office. Increase
your activity as your comfort allows.
6.
If you have a dressing at your navel, remove it the day
after surgery. You
may shower or bathe and reapply a dressing if needed for
drainage. Leave the
small tapes in place.
7.
The small pieces of tape on your incisions may be removed
after seven (7) days or left on until your office visit.
8.
You may experience shoulder pain after surgery for a few
days. This will
improve with time.
9.
Constipation can be a problem.
